Assembly candidate Pilar Schiavo (D) has declared victory in her hard-fought AD 40 race in Los Angeles county.

Thirteen days after the election and looking into the relatively small number of ballots outstanding, her campaign has concluded there is no mathematical way she can lose her front-runner status.

Pilar was a high priority candidate for Health Care for All – CA in both the primary and general elections. She is a deeply knowledgeable and experienced leader whom supporters believe has the potential to move more legislators to act on single payer.

In a Monday morning email, Pilar told supporters, “I am so honored that the voters have entrusted me to represent our community in the State Assembly, and I am even more proud that we did it by running a values-driven campaign that allowed our authenticity and passion to deliver for our community to shine through.

From day one, we focused on the issues that matter most to this community – to fight for guaranteed healthcare, housing, good jobs, real solutions to homelessness, and an economy that works for everyone.”

Ballot tallies can be tracked here. As of Monday evening, Pilar was ahead of opponent incumbent Suzette Valladares (R) by 511 votes, 50.2% to 49.8%.
