Dr. Kathleen Healey was moved by a story she read in the S.F. Chronicle on March 30, 2024 about an infant’s $97,000 air ambulance bill. In response she wrote a letter to the editor which was published in the Chronicle on April 4, 2024.

Dr. Healey explains in her letter that medical debt is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. Insured families cannot afford high patient portions, denials, and deductibles. Single-payer healthcare would save most of us money. Removing middlemen saves money by reducing administration costs and money wasted on corporate profits. Read her letter here.
