The governor’s Healthy California for All Commission will meet next on Thursday, July 8, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Please register now! Robust attendance by single payer supporters is having an impact!

The last meeting on June 25 focused on a “direct payment” model (aka single payer). The July 8 meeting will consider the use of health plans acting as “risk-bearing intermediaries,” a controversial subject for single payer advocates.

Public comment can be spoken (time permitting), written into the chat, or submitted in writing to the Commission. Points can address the topic of a particular meeting (see topics for future meetings here) or express general support for single payer. The main point, forever and always, is that the most cost-effective way possible to guarantee one high standard of health care for everyone is built into the single payer model itself. Creating one complete risk pool–with everybody in and nobody out–with one fund paying all the bills for one comprehensive plan with choice of providers, is the way to streamline financing and administration so that every dollar we put into the system is spent wisely for the beneficiaries of the system–the people of California. This is how we pay for a single payer universal health care system–through the system itself.
