Activists from different Health Care for All – CA chapters were among those at the state Capitol rally last week calling on Gov. Newsom to enlist federal support for a state-based single payer healthcare system. HCA representatives from the counties of Humboldt, Sacramento, Yolo, Contra Costa, and Marin cheered on speakers addressing the dire need for humane and cost-effective health care for all in the state. A representative from the governor’s office accepted thousands of petitions gathered by HCA and other affiliates of the Healthy California Now coalition urging the governor to action and announced the governor had sent a letter initiating contact with President Biden. In addition to a successful bill in the legislature, California will need “waivers” from current federal regulations in order to secure needed funds for the state’s universal healthcare system.
