Public employers such as cities, counties, schools, and local water districts, have a LOT to gain from a cost-effective healthcare system that doesn’t waste 30% of healthcare dollars on overpriced private employee benefit plans. Volunteers can help public agencies promote AB 1400, the current California single payer bill, by presenting them with a resolution they can pass and send to state legislators.

First, inform yourself through the CalCare background documents. Then pick a local board that is the likeliest to support AB 1400 and find out how to get a resolution on the meeting agenda. Lobby individual members, invite influential community members to speak at the meeting, and help with submission of the passed resolution.

Here is a sample resolution that can be adapted to local entities.

Instructions for submitting a resolution: Send the resolution (PDF or Word file) to the Assembly Health Committee via the California Legislature Position Letter Portal. For clarification on how to use the portal, view this reference sheet. Also, send a copy to info@medicare4all.org and to ab1400endorsements@healthcareforall.org so the CalCare campaign and HCA can track endorsements.
