SB 770-Unified Healthcare Financing (Wiener, D-SF) will have its first legislative hearing when the Senate Health Committee meets on Wednesday, April 19. The session begins at 1:30 p.m. The bill sets a timeline for Gov. Newsom’s health department to talk with federal health officials regarding needed design elements and potential funding for a CA single payer healthcare system.

SB 770 builds on the recommendations of last year’s Healthy California for All Commission report which confirmed the tremendous financial and health advantages of a single payer system and called for preparatory talks with the federal government.The bill uses the Commission’s term “unified financing”, commonly interpreted as single payer by advocates.
