Remedies for a Broken Health Care System

On May 9th 2024 we had an informative presentation and discussion about current health care costs, quality, equity, access, and remedies for our health care system’s problems.

Presenters were:

  • Laurel Lucia, the Health Care Program Director for the University of California Berkeley Labor Center and a Consultant to the Healthy California for All Commission
  • Jim Kahn, MD, a Healthcare Economist and Professor at the Institute for Health Policy Studies, UCSF Medical School

About Our Chapter

In December 2024 chapter members elected the following slate of directors and officers to serve in 2025:

Nel Benningshof – Membership Secretary

We invite you to join us at one of our upcoming chapter meetings. New voices are welcome and your input will be valuable. You will learn how you can actively participate in a way that is most attractive to you.

Regular Activities

  • Provide education for the community on issues dealing with healthcare reform
  • Offer public forums and presentations to community groups
  • Publicize related community activities
  • Table at community events
  • Advocate with our legislators in visits, letters, and phone calls
  • Seek endorsements for legislation
  • Provide representatives to meetings of a larger coalition within the East Bay dedicated to Single Payer Health Care reform
  • Fundraise for both our local and state organizations
  • Inform and recruit members

General Meeting Information

The Contra Costa County Chapter meets quarterly on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 2025 Meeting dates: February 2, May 4, August 3, November 2
