Tune in on October 10 from noon to 1 p.m. for a discussion of the topic, “Death vs Dollars–Is our Health an Individual or a Collective Responsibility?” This is the first in a six-part series titled Public Health Awareness sponsored by the SF Bay Area chapter of the League of Women Voters.

This series highlights the importance of the public health system to our communities and is part of the League’s efforts to “empower voters and defend democracy.” The series will seek to highlight the social determinants of health and to raise, and potentially answer, the question: Is our health a matter of personal responsibility or a public, collective good?
This first part introduces the historical role and scope of public health in the U.S., how these have changed, and how two county departments are adapting to the changing policy environment while anticipating the future.
Guest speakers include:
Dr. Sarah Rudman, Deputy Health Officer and Infectious Disease and Response Branch Director (Santa Clara)
Kimi Watkins-Tartt, Public Health Director (Alameda)
